Default Question about 5.3l in an S10

Ive got a 4.3l 5spd in my 2000 s10 now. Is this the same manual trans thats behind the 4.8? Next question would be does it bolt to the 5.3l and if it does, will it hold up or am I wasting my time?

Thanks guys

I believe the 4.3 maintains the old Chevy bellhousing pattern, not the newer LS design. I've never seen any 4.3 with it anyway...

The 4.3 is basically a 350 -2 cylinders. If you wanted to do it you might be able to lift a trans out of a 5.3 1500 with a manual. There is a post on here about a guy building a S10 for a 5.3.....search it.

If the 4.8 cam with a stick then you could easily bolt it to a 5.3 and I think the RST trucks came with a stick and the 5.3

The trany will physically bolt to the motor no problem, they have the same bolt pattern (except the gen III motor doesnt use the bolt to the right of center and uses the top center bolt), you will need a flywheel off of a 4.8, or f body to built your current clutch to though.

your accessories will not swap over either. . . I've never tried it, but the others that have swapped full sized 4.3s to whatever, were not able to reuse them.
