Default Question about engine knocking..

Ok guys last night my engine started knocking real bad.. It sounds like it may be something in the top end but I am not real good and listning to something and diagnosing.. I can put my hand on the top of the engine or intake and feel it vibrating.. Could this be a bad rod bearing or am I looking at something like a bad lifter?? Any idea??

Take your valve covers off real quick and just give it a look see, and check your valvetrain for a broken lifter. It's not like we've got the best lifters in the world.

how are you going to see if you have a broken lifter by doing that? and our lifters dont break they just colaspe and you cant visily see one that is bad and again they are in the BLOCK

How am I going to see a broken lifter by taking off the valve cover? Easy....I'll use my X-Ray Vision and my Spidey Sense...lol....I thought every dummy knew that

Actually friend, what I ment was "take off the valve covers and check out your valvetrain first...ya know...look around in there first"....and subsequently ment that is was probably a bad lifter. I guess I should have drawn a picture out about that. I didn't mean for it to sound like your lifter will be laying in the valve pan.

But by the way.....I have seen multiple BROKEN lifters, not just collapsed. I've seen more collapsed than broken...yes. But....lifter are NOT IMMUNE to breakage.

You will need to remove the head and replace the lifter, IF it is bad.

I tried to do a video with my phone but couldnt get it to send to my email so I will have to wait on my camera to charge.. It almost sounds like TC bolts that are backing out but we just re did those with lock tite about 2 weeks ago.. I wonder if the flexplate bolts could be backing out.. would this cause the engine to vibrate??
