Default question about lq9 CI block?

Hello guys n gals,
Got a tech question that I need an answer for? On the 2002 cast iron blocks from the trucks there are 2 rear rectangular projections coming out near the rear cylinders of the block. There are two matching rectangular projections at the front two cylinders of the block. Question, do these come into contact with either water passages or oil passages of the engine at less that 1 inch depth? I need to know this so I can have the block machined to accept a pivot stud for a mechanical clutch assembly for my truck?
Need an answer when yall gearheads chuckle over this enough

Thanks
Sean Wolff
