Default Question about using 4L65e in truck

I have a 2000 5.3 truck(with Procharger), and my tranny has been on light duty for a while.
It slips on the 1-2 shift under WOT pretty badly, so I take it easy now until I get a new one.

After checking around on having a 4L60e built strong, and reading alot, my confidence in having one correctly built using HD parts, using correct tolerances has kind of waned.

If I buy a new GM 4L65e, will it bolt right up to my truck, and work with my programming? (I can change programming using Edit BTW)

I don't race. I just drive it, and I do use the power, but not sure how many years I will even keep the truck, so I don't really want to put 5-6 K(like a stage V FLP, with TC with S&H to AK.) in the tranny.

Will it bolt up and work?
How much is a 4L65e from my dealership?
any idea?
Thanks for any help!

I think the 65E is pretty strong. Not "built" like others, but its definitely not bad. You can probably get one for just over $2k from a dealership. I think its a good idea. If you don't really beat it down, it will last for a while. Check with the silveradoss.com guys. Most of the 65E transmissions on there are doing fine. One went out recently, but that guy has videos of doing AWD burnouts on nitrous in a parking lot. Thats more abuse than use.

Save your stock one and pull the 65E before you sell the truck to get some monet back out of it.

Oh yeah, they bolt up perfectly and runs identically as the stock 60E from a programming standpoint. On my 99 Z71, I swapped in a 65E for a few months and had no problems at all. Mainly the 65E has some stronger parts and extra clutch, but is the same physical platform as the 60E.

I have one sitting in a crate (24221888) that I bought from GMPartsDirect.com and it came in right around $2K shipped. Just waiting to see which cam I'm going to put in...I'll use the stock 4L60E to see if I'll need a new converter, or if I'll use the stock one (the tranny comes with a stock stall speed converter) before I swap the 4L60E out. The stock 60 is fine, I'm just getting ready to have some fun, and want the upgraded tranny in with the hardened components and 5-pinion planets, together with the Transgo and Vette servo.

Jammer's about right. There isn't much difference between the 2 internally, and nothing externally. It should bolt right up and work fine with no mounting modifications or programming. I would put a shift kit and servos in it anyways, that will help it out from the beginning.

There is more than that in the 65E. Here is a good article on it:

I do agree w/ flyer, a shift kit and servo are a good idea. I installed those 6 months ago on my 65E. Nice firm shifts now.

Thanks for that page BigTex. That is a pretty informative article.
The 65 has a few different parts other than the plantetaries.
Sun gear, output shaft, turbine shaft, stator, roller clutch are all different than the 60.
All these parts, right here
