Questioning 6.0 dipstick length
Just bought a 2002 Chevy 2500 with the 6.0 vortec and immediately changed the oil. Put 6 quarts into it and pulled the dipstick to check and it was completely dry. My dipstick is almost 34 inches from the tip to the rubber o-ring below the handle. 6 quarts is the oil capacity of this engine, correct? I am questioning the length of the dipstick is correct or not. Can anyone validate or help me out. There is one other post out there were they discuss the length being around 34 inches, but never really validate if that includes the handle or not. Thanks.

The length should be correct, I just looked up a replacement and it says they are 33.7in long.
You are correct that they hold 6 quarts, so I'm sure why it's not reading the level.

The more I think about it, I will crawl in there and make sure the tube is flush in the block. The bracket is bolted up tight. It is very weird, I may add .5 quart and see if it touches it. Thanks for the quick reply

Whats more important is how far the dipstick sits out below the bottom of the tube. I don't know if there were multiple engine dipstick tubes, but if there were, then theres a chance of using the wrong tube/stick. Common issue/question on the 80e swap.
