Couple of questions for you.

What are your HP goals?
You seem interested in MPG so I assume this is your daily driver?
You also said, "non-intercooled radix", do you mean a side mount Magnacharger?

To answer your question...a Magnacharger "Radix" (which is intercooled) will make more safe power on the 5.3 than the 6L will make stock. The same is true of a non intercooled side mount, you just have to stay at a little lower boost so the air doesn't get too hot. But if you have a S/C why wouldn't you put it on the 6L?

Magnacharger makes a non-intercooled radix now

Does it have the intercooler and just does not include the heat exchanger? Wouldn't it sit on the valley different? I've never seen it.

Whatever the price difference is, I would pay it to get the intercooler.

Yeah, I'd go intercooled with any f/i, but I guess to keep the cost down they started makeing the kit w/o and no tuning as well I think. I'm not sure if the intake manifold is the same just doesnt have the core inside or if its redesigned.

well this would be my daily driver and i just don't want to loose to much mpg, but i think if i went out and bought a lq9 and rebuild it, it would be a good project so i can learn more about engines, what price i am looking at for a LQ9, found one for 2500 with every thing even the engine cover. also what about the tranny, i am less looking at a radix now, i don't really have any hp goals i just want a new project

FYI. Rollin20's gets about 21 MPG on his LQ9 rc 2wd. I get about 12.5 on my rcsb Z-71 with a cammed/stalled LQ4. If youre gonna re-build it, you could go with a cheaper LQ4, and put flat top pistons in it, or shave the heads. LQ4's are weaker than the LQ9's but they are still a hell of a lot torquier than the 5.3. Check sig for times I still run low 14's on the 31's . I dont know about the tranny. Its kind of a hit or miss. I'd get no more than 80-85% TM removed. Then get a vette servo and HD2 shift kit installed. Like that you would probably be ok with the 6.0. I blew my first tranny with the 5.3, so I dont think anyone can give you a real answer on that.

BTW I agree with a 6.0 and Radix. And you will be able to run more boos with the LQ4 than the LQ9.
