Default Questions after cam install?

I decided to go with the TR 220 112 kit with the 918's, the install went very smooth and everything turned out great. It drove ok on the stock tune, but was retarding timing because of knock. I already had a wait4me tune, so I shipped my pcm back to him and let him retune it. I thought the truck would run a lot better after the tune, but it still ran like crap. One of my buddies hooked up his computer to my truck, and as soon as I touch the gas it starts pulling 8 degrees of timing because of knock. I thought I would throw some questions at yall and see what yall thought.

I read somewhere that the 99-01's get a lot of false knock. If I got a pcm out of an 02 and tuned it, it should be okay. Is that true?

I knew the valvetrain would be louder after the install, but is it normal to hear the valvetrain inside the cab while at cruising speeds?

Do I have a bigger problem I need to be worried about?

The knock sensors are only a little over a year old.

did you do the install yourself...and if so are you sure it was at top dead center when you did the swap...

sounds to me like it might be a one or two teeth off...

getting the timing is easily the most frustrating part of a camswap...a little mistake there will ruin your day when it gets put back together.

Instead of buying another PCM just have yours flashed for an 02 model...easier, less money, etc.

I've read some reviews from people, and W4M seems to be a 50/50 shot of getting a proper tune, or a 5 minute tune before he leaves the office thats thrown together.

Yeah, me and a few of my buddies did the swap. We used the cylinder compression method. We had the dots lined up perfect. I didn't think about it before, but somebody mentioned the timing chain being loose. Would it being a little bit loose make that big of a difference.

I agree on the W4M tunes now.

I went and moved this to the engine and exhaust section for you, rather than have duplicate threads.

you can flash em to 02, mine was flashed because i had like 5* of KR on 93.

My chain was/is at pretty full slack when we did the cam swap and there hasn't been a problem with mine, all the teeth are still sharp, can't imagine yours could be that bad.

The 99-00 PCM's are the ones with the KR problems, 01-02 are the good ones. From what I've read, the newer tune can be flashed into the older PCM, including the new operating system which is different. I have an 02 PCM in my 99 (swapped when we were still learning of the 99-00 issues). It cured my knock problems...I was getting 7.9* of KR every time I touched the throttle after my cam swap. The truck was a total dog until I went with the 02 PCM.
