Default Complete Rear axle?

Thinking about getting a complete rear axle with diff. for my truck with factory 3.73's or 4.10's. Currently I've got the 3.42's in it. How much do you guys think this should cost from a salvage yard?

My emergency brake is non-existent and I wanna gear change anyways. This may not be the best route to take, but that's why I'm asking how much you guys think it would cost. It's just an idea at this point. I don't plan on putting a ton of power to it so I think the factory stuff will be fine. I figure getting an Eaton unit will cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 bucks for parts and labor.

OK, I'll reply.

I have no idea how much it should cost. But what does replacing the whole rear have to do with the e-brake. Those e-bakes are simple to change.

Unless you are thinking about swapping in a 14 bolt I don't understand why on earth you'd go to the trouble of buying one from a junk yard, then installing it. It'd ultimatley cost you a lot more time and labor to do that than it would be to just have somone swap a set of 4.10 gears in .... At least that is if you're going with another 8.5" 10 bolt .... If you were gonna swap in a 14 bolt I could see why you'd wanna do that, but not just another 10 bolt

Thanks for the replies guys, figured I'd find one complete with the rotors brakes and all, total diff, axles, and everything. Thought it would be an easy swap. I see your points though, if I was gonna do something like that i should deffinately upgrade rears.

My neighbor just changed his e-brake and told me he had to pull his axle to get it off, and that it was a bitch. Maybe he just didn't know.

Would the bigger rear bolt right up?

Your neighbor wasted a lot of time. All you have to do is snake the e-brake pad off over the studs. Takes about 30 minutes a side to do.
