REAR END advice please !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 2000 Silverado with very many bolt-ons, enough to get it to turn 13.55's in the quarter mile. I only have 3.42's open differential out back. Would you agree this is holding me back? If so what would you recommend gear wise but espcially lockers and a posi unit. Where can I find rear gears and posi units for these newer trucks? Anyone know were a complete rear end, axles and rear chunk for a 99-03 wrecked Z-71.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks <img border="0" alt="[Truck]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_truck.gif" />

Re: REAR END advice please !!!!!!!!!!!!!
you don't want to just throw a stock g80 set up in there if thats what you are geting at looking for a used rear. i have the g80 in my truck and have one completly bald tire and 3 ok tires, the g80 sucks from a performance stand point, might be good offroad, not sure about that. as far as what you are loosing, if you are peeling out or back peadling you are loosing time, it has been my experience that even just a little tire spin(the kind that sounds good but you are still taking off hard) kills at least 2/10's from my ET.
i am also looking for a good rear that wont slip EVER. i do not want to see one tire mark. i use 4wd when i really want to move but i want the rear to do as much of the work as possiable so hopefully the front wont come apart on me.
i thought the powertrax set up looked cool, easy to install, but after looking into it some is looks like it wont take alot of power without breaking. so back to the topic, what rear is the best(locks up solid and doesn't let go)

Most bolt on only trucks run 13.8-13.9 with a posi. I've never heard of a "bolt on" only truck running 13.anything without a posi. How much NOS did you "bolt on?" Or did you "bolt on" a 6.0L? Then again, a 6.0L only ran 13.5 with bolt ons and posi.

Re: REAR END advice please !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the reply guys, I was hoping to get a reply from some guys who might have already installed new rear end setups. Still wanting to know differences in 3.73 to 4.10 and if a posi unit is needed. Don't know where to get these parts other than dealer.
As for you RED GMC, my truck does run mid 13's with the bolt-ons I have, sure I didn't offer any details but the FOCUS was on only the REAR END and if anything could be done to help me. How slow have you gotten your truck to go?
<img border="0" alt="[barf]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" /> Don't Doubt Me Dumb ***!!!!!

Nobody can give you any good advice without knowing what you have done to your truck in mods. I've been on the board a while and no one has gotten their truck to run better than 13.8-13.9 with bolt ons only. Now, with a cam/head change, maybe you do run 13.5...then again you could run 13.5 with NOS. We are usually skeptic about newbies until they give their mods, just ask hiho.
I will give him credit once he lists his mods.

Re: REAR END advice please !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey guys let me start all over. Sure I've got NOS and very many bolt-ons. Is NOS not considered a bolt-on around here? Any how, I've not gone internal with my transmission or engine. Only two things left I want to add to engine and that would be ASP pulleys and a electric fan. Figured those would help me out very little is why I chose to inquire about the rear end. Have you guys got any advice on which way I should go with it? Do you all know of people running quick with the 3.42 gear?
Didn't mean to be so negative earlier, for I want to get my truck rolling just as you guys are. It's just I'm not a LIAR and look to get even quicker this last month up here in Memphis, TN with the colder air.
Like to know a little more about removing EGR and what that helps you out with.
thanks guys

Here is a small thread about the EGR mod.

Just for future reference. Although N20 is technically a bolt on people usually don't consider it one around here. I think if it adds over a certain amount of power than its considered a power adder. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

yep, welcome to the site man <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
what all bolt ons do you have? Have you gotten an aftermarket torque converter yet? Even though i would get a locker before i got pulleys i would definately keep them in mind as a good and cheap mod. 10rwhp/10+rwtq seems to be average gains from them.
what was the mph on your 13.55 run? single cab or ext cab? 4.8 or 5.3?
as far as lockers people usually have good things to say about the auburn or eaton units. Oxidizer just went with a detroit locker, but i'm not sure if thats something to get if you care if your truck drives exactly like it did out of the factory. I think he said it got a little interesting around the turns sometimes. Maybe he will post up with more info
