As for you RED GMC, my truck does run mid 13's with the bolt-ons I have, sure I didn't offer any details but the FOCUS was on only the REAR END and if anything could be done to help me. How slow have you gotten your truck to go?

i too was wondering what "bolt-ons" you put on there to make it run low-mid 13s. and yes the focus was on the rear end but there's nothing wrong with getting a little off topic if its still performance related.

and there's really no need for name calling. unless we're talking about hiho ***** off to work we go..in which case its fun to see just how badly we can murder his name.

I said it, but i have to be fair and edit it. Matt look at some previous posts about this topic by searching in the GM Truck Tech Performance section. I would go with a locker and 3.73s

ahh, i want to so bad

Alright guys, now we are talking!
Guess I'm gonna have to get down to the nitty gritty on what all I've got.
Carmine Red regular cab, short bed, 5.3, not sure about rear end except I know I've got 3.42's, don't really know if its open or limited slip but wanna fix it with some sort of locker, could tell you all about some outside mods if you would like but I'd rather just keep on about motor, I've Hypertech Power Programmer, 160 degree thermostat, Flowmaster dual exhaust from factory cats, K&N Filter Charger kit, BBK 80 mm throttle body, red Taylor wires, Edelbrock TES headers, 150 wet shot of NOS. I think thats everything, stock intrenal motor and stock transmission. Don't spray but once every month or so.
Ran 13.55 twice in a row with 125 shot of NOS.
If weather is around 70 degrees I'll have some new numbers tonight.
I'm trying to keep up with my brother's Dakota R/T which is pretty much identical to my truck as far as what he has done. He just added traction bars that why I've inquiring about the REAR END, he got me beat there with 3.92 and posi and now traction bars to my single right wheel.
OH! also have big 295/60/R16 Goodyears which come out to a 31" tire. Does that change your gear thinking?
Do my times sound about right?

Thanks XLR8NSS on the EGR mod!

After rear end changes all I want to do is Electric fan and ASP pulleys.
thanks for replys guys

Hey SS, I went from a 3.42 to a 4.10 with an Eaton posi and absolutely love it. It didn't affect my mileage too bad (2500RPM at 70) and made a BIG difference all the way around.

DAMN I do just under 2000 RPMs at 70. I won't be getting 4.10s!!! But since you have a 31 inch tire, maybe you should consider it. How is the BBK TB? I heard they stick open and are not worth it, what do you think??

Shorter tires increase your effective gear ratio (actually lowers it.) With 26" tires and 3.42s, your effective gear ratio is close to 3.95 or so. 31" tires and 3.42s will net you 3.30 or so.

I was wondering what my gearing came out to. I have 3.42s but run a 295/50/16. I thought it might be around a 355 or 359. my speedo is off by 5mph because of it. I have never heard of a 295/60 r16. Which ones are they? I would like to throw a set of 4.10s in mine just for the fact of hauling my racecar around. It comes in at at 2900lbs and i dont know what the trailer weighs.
