replace muffler only or muffler/pipe?
i am interested in doing my exhaust. i hope to have tong tubes later on, but for now i will just be swapping stuff after the cats. i want to use a single magnaflow 5x11x22 muffler
is it beneficial for performance to swap out the piping for 3" mandrel bent along with the muffler?
if so, would it be better to buy the catback or have a shop do it
i am tempted to just have the muffler swapped for about $100 including install, but i am just wondering whether doing the pipe along with it will give better performance.

well not knowing what else you have in mods i would say go with at least true 3" that you will be able to run another 3" on side of it later i have dual 2.5 and 3" is better we have try it on another truck do it the first time i have about 700.00 in exhaust and it is still not what i want.

i have a stock truck that hopefully will get a few bolt ons in the near future. nothing extreme planned. no fi, no nitrous. so i dont need a dual system i dont think. just looking for more power and better sound.

I don't 'think' you'd notice much difference now if you switched to 3" piping behind the muffler but you might later after installing some of your bolt-on's. I have the Magnaflow with the 3" thru-pipe and a mandrel-bent exit pipe (from Ravin' or Raven, I think) which does okay with the Volant CAI and the long-tube headers.
Good luck!

I ran the stock exhaust with just a muffler replacement and had great results. I never tried to swap to a full catback but it seems like I was near the top of my game with my MPH back when I was N/A so I'm not sure if the full catback would have helped or not. On a stockish truck it's a waste IMO.

On a close to stock truck I would recommend just a muffler replacement, if I remember correctly isn't the stock exhaust all mandrel bent. Either way it will be cheaper and work just fine.
