Default Replace O2 sensor or !CATS

hey guys i was just wanting some opinions... i live in alabama so i don't have to worry about passing emissions, and i had a few questions.
one of my O2 sensors went out and i really don't feel like replacing it. I talked to a local tuner who will be tuning my truck for me sometime soon and he said that he could get a local shop to cut my cats off and weld in solid pipe for under 50 bucks whereas i would pay 100 for a new sensor (delco). what should i do?
to the guys who have already removed cats, how much louder is the exhaust in the cab? Does is sound raspy? Any downside to removing them or problems down the road after a tune?
any miscellaneous info is also greatly appreciated
thanks

What sensor went out. Sensor 1 or sensor 2? If sensor 2 (behind cats) you don't have to replace them, just shut them off.
As far as that cats go it's going to get louder for sure if you take them off.

Yeah depends on which sensor. If its rear you can just get them turned off. If its a front sensor then, depending on the truck, you could swap one of your rear sensors in place of the front and just get the rears turned off.

Which O2 "went out", pre or post cat? I would say don't remove the cat unless something is wrong with it. If it's a pre cat, I think you can move a post cat sensor up to that position, put the bad sensor post cat, and then tune it out, assuming you have tuning software. If you don't, then that's what you should spend your money on.

you have 2 sets of O2 sensors, one before and one behind each catalytic converter. The ones behind only monitor the Cats, the ones in front are necessary for CL operation. A new sensor is ~$50 at pep-boys.
If it's one behind the cats you can turn off the sensor with software but I'd advise you just replace the sensor

well the sensor that's on the fritz is in bank 2 if that helps. the main reason that i want to remove the cats is that one of the catalysts is busted. the driver side converter rattles like hell and i'm tired of it.
