bank 2 sensor 1 is the passenger side front sensor which the pcm uses to adjust the fuel trims. Bank 2 sensor 2 is the passenger side after the cats which just monitors to make sure the cats are working. Sensor 2 you can shut off. sensor 1 needs replaced. Either way you can keep the cats or cut them off, your choice.

Or have your friend set you up a speed density tune and just shut the sensors off all together.

i'll ask the tuner what he thinks. i'm pretty sure it said sensor 2 bank 2 so i'll just get those turned off i'm getting longtubes eventually anyway so i'll save myself the trouble.

now instead of starting a new thread, i'll just ask here. i'd like to hear the pros and cons removing catalytic converters from exhaust. what do you guys think?

It's a personal choice man. Do you want to be louder, raspier, and have a strong exhaust smell, or do you want it to stay how it is.

Upside to removing the cats? Won't do much for you being stock, you might feel a little more power since you're removing an exhaust restriction, but I'm guessing that the gains will be minimal. As mentioned your exhaust will be louder and you will have more exhaust odor, how much depends on how well it's tuned.

Did you find out if it was sensor1 or sensor2? You mentioned that you thought it was sensor 2...

You Roto-Rooter your cats with a plumbers snake. It's FREE if you have a snake out in the garage. Down south we're too dumb and too broke to know about all this Bank 1 Sensor 2 stuff and we can't afford to have the cats removed anyway. Just drive down to the local ACE hardware if you don't already have a snake and buy a 3/8" plumbers snake(under $10). Remove the cats and hog out the cats with the snake chucked up in your electric drill. If you don't have a drill you can borrow one from your cousin or neighbor. Put the hollow cats back on and drive away.

too much work haha. i'd rather cut them bitches off. i don't mind the noise since i'm moving and the truck'll be parked the majority of the time. i'm curious about the smell though. what do you mean? will it smell like gas or what? do you smell it inside the cab or just outside?

update by the way. the SES light has gone off and unplugging the sensor completely has no effect. should i be worried about that?

No, don't be worriied, you probably have an intermittent fault, if the PCM doen't pick up the fault for a certain amount of key or drive cylces (depends on the code), it will turn off the MIL (malfunction indicator lamp). As for unplugging and not getting a code, some codes have a 2 trip logic, or require that the PCM runs a monitor to set the fault, so unplugging the sensor may take a while for the MIL to illuminate. I've left things unplugged accidentally on customer's cars and not heard back from them for a week until their light came on...always seems wierd to me, you'd think that a direct open circuit would turn the light on immediately, but that's not always the case. I'll bet that if you drive it around a bit you'll see your check engine light glowing at you
