Yeah, Cash is right. Look at your pads before you buy new ones. Sometimes they just squeak and it has nothing to do with the wear indicators.

I've said it before but, here goes again. My dad has 150,000 miles on the stock pads that came on his '99 2500HD. They still look great.

Did you check the brake fluid? I have gone thru several sets of brake pads on my beater car, and brake pedal travel never changed as the pads wore, because the piston adjusts as they wear. However brake fluid goes down slightly as they wear and the piston(s) moves out. Also make sure the vaccum hoses on the brake booster are tight.

today im planning on removing the wheels and checking the brake pads, the fluid level and everything is good, alot of people say the brakes should last longer but i dont know, 61,000 miles of mudslinging, trailer pulling, racing, and regular stop and go driving could of taken its toll, thanks for the info

On my jeep I somehow occasionally will get a small amount of water in the brake lines that makes it feel squishy. I've had to drain and replace my brake fluid a couple times, and have now even upgraded fittings and stainless steel braded lines to help stop it. I also go through rotors and pads pretty quickly because dirt and mud will find its way to inbetween the pad and rotors resulting in grooves in rotor.

Routine maintenance may cost more, but it sure is fun to abuse a vehicle! I have done and will continue to do my share of that!

finally checked them out today and i saw that my rear left brake pads had about 1mm of pad left, the rest were about 4 or 5mm so i just replaced them all, that worn out brake pad kinda fraked me out but now its stopping on a dime

Cash is right when he says that pad wear will NOT cause excess pedal travel. The fluid conpensates for that. That sounds more like a leak at a seal in the system. I would inspect all 4 wheel slave cylinders closely for a fluid leak AND the Master Cylinder too. People don't think about changing their brake fluid, but it is a good idea from time to time. If you do enough brake jobs you soon find out how FILTHY that fluid can get in what is supposed to be a "CLOSED SYSTEM". When I do a brake job I always flush the brake fluid while I'm at it. You can do it by yourself with a vacuum pump. Brake fluid is CHEAP. If you racing this vehicle and doing a lot of towing you can expect to see more pad wear. I have 40K on my truck and the pads look almost like new.

hey are the powerslot slotted rotors they sell on www.truckperformance.com any good? theyre only like 100 bucks a piece....doesnt seem like a bad price....ive only got like 22k miles on my truck, but my rotors look kinda nasty....theyre grooved....i guess from dirt and mud....and im sure 35" tires dont help things.....i need more stopping power.....what do yall suggest the power slots? different pads?

Not sure if this is an indicator of bad designed rotors, or just bad ones on my truck.

When I brought my '00 Silverado in for service at 18,000 miles, I had some vibration issues which I was pretty sure was with the steering shaft. It was, but the dealer also found that all 4 of my brake rotors were warped and needed to be resurfaced. They weren't terrible, but were warped nonetheless. I don't do anything but normal everyday driving, and in the last 17 years of driving have never had ONE vehicle warp rotors on me.

I couldn't tell the difference at all after they re-did them, other than they looked like new. Common problem? Or just something wrong with my truck?
