change out the cam you should change out the lifters..
you can put new lifters on an old cam, but not a new cam on old lifters..
they will collapse expecially if it has a violent ramp rate....

swap out the lifters, and it will fix your problem..
I had the same exact thing happen to mine..
loud tapping coming from the drivers side..
would gradually get worse, and then when I dropped into a lower gear it would get oil in to the lifter, and go away, but it was everyonce and a while at first. then it got so bad it did anytime I got in it...
finally swapped the lifters, and havnt heard it since..

Are the Comp OE replacement lifters any good? I usually see them for under $200. Melling also makes lifters for the GenIII...between $160-$170 from what I've seen. Pretty sure that you'd need a second mortgage for factory ones

Comp Performance replacements here had the good ole lifter tick in my lil engine. COmp makes two different ones the factory replacements and the "preformance" ones they are like 15 bucks more. Dont ask me the difference cause I dont know.

Are you tightening the rocker arm bolts in there sequence at TDC of the compression stroke? For example rotate the crankshaft untill number one piston is at top dead center of the compression stroke. In this position, cylinder number one rocker arms will bo off lobe lift, and crankshaft sprocket
will be at the 1:30 Position. Tighten 1,2,7 and 8 exhaust valve rocker arm bolts to 22 lb ft. Tighten 1,3,4, and 5 intake valve rocker arm bolts to 22 lb ft.
Rotate the crankshaft 360 degress. Tighten cylinders 3,4,5 and 6 exhaust valve rocker arm bolts to 22 lb ft. tighten cylinders 2,6,7 and 8 intake valve rocker arm bolts to 22 lb ft.

Ive seen rocker arm bolts back out, if not done in the proper sequence.

The Crane/VHP rockers have their own (lengthy) method of installation and use studs instead of bolts. http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...TRUCTIONS.HTML
