Default ?'s on setup of 6L for towing/DD

So i will be getting a 6l from a member here for a winter project. Looking for suggestions for what direction i should go to get the most out of the setup. The heads have been milled slightly and im sure ill clean them up prior to install. The block got a freshing up with just a hone and new rings and bearings.

My goal is to be able to drive the truck in town during the week and not lose much mileage. Also the main reson for the swap is so that i can not kill my truck trying to tow my K5 rockcrawler and all the tools and camping gear with it.

I will be also going back with the stock stall when i do the swap.

In short, looking for a low end, good mileage setup that will be reliable and efficient. No power or e/t time goals at all.

Thanks

You should be fine with just putting 4.10s in.. Goin back to the stock converter is goin to make the trans shift alot harder so you might want to get it tuned for that?

What else are you tryin to figure out?
Cam specs?

Just the swap to the 6.0 will make a HUGE difference towing.

Other than that I say 3.73 or 4.10 gears and a 212/218 cam.

Already got the gears in the truck now.

Ya, looking for cams specs and any other suggestions to make it as efficient as possible while DD and towing.

Shifts were actually softer when i had the stock stall in.....

I was looking at the Vinci "062" myself. It's a 210/218 .551/.551 on 112 lsa.

Either that or the comp 212/218 high lift.

With the 4.10s maybe the Comp HR269 (216/220) would be good. Zippy even recommended the comp 222/224 on stock converter.

Just from my research, I was pretty set on the Vinci cam.

For the trans, but in a Transgo shift kit and then have the pcm reprogrammed for towing. I tow a 7500lb enclosed trailer in a 6000lb Escalade (LQ9) without any problems. The billet OD servo makes a difference to keep milage down.

With a small cam you should not have any problem keeping it in OD for flat and rolling highway...important for decent gas mileage.

I like these cam recommendations...if going bigger than 212/218, such as the 216/220, I'd recommend a mild converter like a Yank TT2600.

You won't need much beyond the 6.0. Maybe a tune or long tubes/catback if you're feeling ambitious. I like headers on a tow rig just because it's under high load/heat and it helps move the heat.

I have a fully bolted 4.8 now, if ya check the sig you will see that, and i will be using everything from that engine on the 6L.

I guess the main thing im unsure about is the cam choice that will be inexpensive, and keep my mileage unchanged from the stock pc as much as possible. Heads already have the 918's, but im sure i wont max those out with the baby can range im looking at....
