Default SBC Ignition Problems

My race car has been sittin in my garage this year, a friend wanted to take my msd stuff just for a back up in a big race so i let him borrow it. Now it ran 2 weeks ago, i start up every once in a while to make sure it still runs. Now i go back to put it on. It has a 4/7 swap cam with a firing order of 1 8 7 3 6 5 4 2. I get my number 1 piston up and get the distributor set and the number 1 plug wire is set according to the rotor. the distributor is locked out so no advance. no heres my problem no matter where i set the timing its backfiring out my carburetor, ive done burnt the hair off my right arm. ive done checked my plug wires several times, the box is wiring correctly, it had a 4 wire and 3 wire connector so its not wired wrong.ive been messin with this for several hours now

I had an MSD box on my old mud truck go haywire for now apparent reason. Stupid thing started just sending spark whenever it wanted to. Pretty much fried the inside of my distributor cap.

You say it's been sitting. Pull the cap and check inside for moisture. Maybe it's got carbon trails in it. I spray the inside of the cap with WD-40 before I put it on.

Still sounds like your a 180 out. I always pull the number 1 plug out and stick my finder in the hole and turn the motor over with a socket till I feel compression pushing my finger out of the hole, then roll it up to about 8* advanced on the mark. Then I drop in the distributor, and put the cap on and line up the cap with where the rotor is pointing. That way I know there is about 8* advance in it and pretty much always fires right up and runs.
