That's the most simplified correct answer I think I've ever heard discussing the MAF screens and will be my answer to this question from now on. ...Just leave it alone, you can find reliable power somewhere else...

no. God damn it no.

if a TT S7 can make 1000+ hp on a 90mm screened MAF, you'll be fine.

actually, they go to great lengths to get the screen in there

It made no difference on mine.

your wrong and talking out of your ***. the MAF tables are calculating under the assumption that the airflow is laminar. Varrying values of turbulence are much more difficult to tune for and certainlyl not even close to linear. you will see that TOTALLY diffirent formulas are used based on how turbulent or laminar air flow is. No screen = crapshoot. screen = laminar. much easier to tune for. You can tune without out, but its a pita and pointless.

excellent work, most admirable.

my T/A's screen had tons of crap in it, but my air box had some gaps, i just don't see how it gains any power, i got ported and polished maf ends for my T/A and it made a little difference but i just can't see it doing the same for a little mesh screen

It's there to straighten the airflow coming in to reduce minimize false airflow readings, but on the cars with straight intakes, the screen isn't required.

Chill out bud, a simple explanation as to why it should stay in there would have worked.
