Howdy Beau! I'm the one doing lifters (on the Z28 that has an ASA cam) who harassed you on the phone last week about 3 or 4 different times haha. Think I decided on ordering those heads from you! Will be calling you soon. Got my heads off finally today and lifters are currently soaking until I get some new heads.

Just saw this thread and the dyno chart. What did you end up with the shift points set to? It looks like power is barely falling off at 6200 where the chart stops.

Ive finally got back into messing with my truck and found it actually pulls great up to 6800. Stock LQ4 with a isky 215/215 .566/.566 114.
Ive had it set to 5900 where it was shifting with the turbo. And decided to see how far it would go till it stop pulling. Bumped the rev limiter so i raised it from 6400 to 6900. Ended up shifting it higher and ran a better time and mph. 70 in 1st and 118 in 2nd is fun.



Should put it back on the dyno and see if power has changed since you have put some miles on it and got everything nice and broken in.

Good point nonnieselman on the shift points. I'd like to know what they are shifting it at also. I know every dyno is different and several other factors, but maybe that is why the #'s seem kinda low to some people. That would explain it all if they are being conservative on the shift points.

I'll have to look at the tune and see where they are at. I am not 100% sure the exact shift point.

Man it's tough making big trucks go fast. Gears and a converter are gonna be a MUST in this truck.

Ran a best of 16.05 @ 89mph on 2.57 60' in 4000' of air with 3/4 of a tank.

The 89mph shows the truck is making some serious power. Just needs some extra help to get it moving. Minor adjustments to shift points and timing may help get it into the 15s in similar conditions, but ultimately gears & converter is what it needs. These runs were nowhere near max effort. Full weight, 3/4 tank of fuel, tailgate on & up (as if it helps to remove it ???). Only changes to the trucks compared to street trim are a pair of 28" Hoosier QTPs and removed headlight.

I'm happy with the results and looking forward to the drivetrain upgrades over the off season. All in all, I drove it there, drove it home, knocked down 20 MPG, ran near 90mph in a 6200 lb truck, and had a great time doing it!!!

I feel we met our goal of increased power over stock without any negative effects on drive-ability.

What were the 1/8th mile times?

Does that joker really weigh 6200#, just sounds like alot for a CC 2wd..
My 2000 EC 2wd weighs 4800..

OH and did you get to check on your shift points? Being 89 in the 1/4, did it shift into 3rd?

Definitely room for improvement with Gears, converter and adjusting the tune.

A cheaper 3200 converter in the CC should lower the 1/4th mile times by .4-.5, would get the best results with a multi disk though.

10.53 @ 69mph.

Oops! Typo on the weight. I meant to put 5200, which is still only an assumption. Could be wrong...My 03 Yukon weighed 5600, so who knows...Need to get it on the scales. Either way, she's a big'un!

Didn't get to look at the tune. We forgot to take the laptop. Will look at it this week. It did shift into 3rd right before the stripe. We had no idea it would trap that high. We figured 80-83mph in 2nd.

Yes sir. 3.90s are waiting to go in, and then I will look at doing the converter before season opens next year.

What is the rpm range on this camshaft? How do you think it would do in a 4.8?

I have a friend that has this particular cam in 4.8L that resides in ’99 RCSB with stock exhaust manifolds, cat-back system and a K&N FIPK. It has 4.56 rear gears and rides on short 26” tall tires and performs decent, but needs a converter in the worst way. A set of long tubes wouldn’t hurt a damn thing either. It tuned out really well running an ’02 OS and has great manors while having a decent sounding idle note. I will say when the truck was packing the stock 3.23 gears behind the tiny 4.8L with no converter it was a pig and he couldn’t even get it to break the tires loose from a stomp, something he could do with the stock cam’d engine, so it definitely lost some low end in his with an otherwise stock engine. He ended up running low 9 second eighth mile times.
