Question Shiftkit ,Converter etc.

Ok I've got a TT3000,TransGo shift kit, Superior servo, and a tranny cooler sitting on the shop floor ready to go in next week, but I've got a couple of quetions.

Anybody want to elaborate on how many washers and what size drill holes to use with the kit? I want a nice firm shift but not a neck snapper. My truck is an 2002 RC step side with 5.3. The only real performance mods so far is a K&N FIPK ( I know I know UPD!!) and Eaton Posi. (Custom tune from Lyndon as soon as I get these goodies installed) Also wondering about the cooler install ....do I want it before or after the stock cooler (in the radiator). Also which line is the supply and which is the return? Thanks, I really enjoy this forum and have done a lot of lurking and learning. Lots of experience out there! Saves us newbies a lot of heartache and cash learning from the trials and tribulations of those who have bravely gone before!!

Frank (I'm an Okie-any others out there?)

I would use NO washers with that billet intermediate servo...I don't have any and can bark 285 A/T's on a 1-2 shift! Go to the larger hole on the 2-3 shift (should be the feed hole for the 3-4 pack. .093 sticks in my head for some reason). The others do that .082 size or whatever it is.

Secondary cooler after the factory heat exchanger and use both. DO NOT bypass the one in the radiator. Supply is usually upper.

Oh you're a n00b! Oh **** not another one! j/k

WTF is Okie???

I have the Transgo with 1 washer and the big hole drilled. It shifts hard and quick (I love it), not neck snapping, but only at WOT, if you're easy on the throttle, it shifts soft. I also have a tranny cooler. The line that goes into the bottom of the radiator is fluid coming from the tranny into the radiator, so don't even bother taking that line off. The top one is the fluid return line, so take that one off, run a line from the radiator to the cooler, then a line from the cooler into the return line. It's like running both in a series.

If your using that converter on there, I'd go with one washer. If you weren't I'd totally agree with HitMan. The looser converters make the shift that much more sloppier. Drill all of the smallest holes except for the one labeled 3rd, I did mine the optional size, not the race/super HD use size either.

The servos will help stiffen up the shift too, that is a good idea as it helps with the holding power in 2nd and 4th.

You might pay attn to things .. if you have a tranny temp gauge watch it and make sure it is getting up to at least 150 or so when you drive around. If not I would consider tapping the lower line to make sure things heat up enough.

For the tranny cooler, tap into the top line. I cut about 8 inches out of mine. The side that is still attached to the radiator, run that to your cooler, then the other side of the cooler to the loose end of the line you cut. That will get that going right.

Hey, guys I was thinking about doing the trans-go shift kit, billet servos and a tranny cooler. I could do the billets and cooler, but will probably take my truck to a tranny shop to get the trans-go installed. I was wondering though, will these mods decrease the transmission's life significantly or do they actually help it out? P.S what tranny cooler do you guys recommed (links would be great). Thanks.

All are a good idea nd will increase tranny life. Be sure you can get torque management removed though. That will give you hell with a converter and/or a shift kit.

Here's a link for a nice cooler:

Thanks for the reply. Without LS1edit, how will I get rid of TM, is there another way of doing it? So I guess it will have to be Trans-go, Billet servos, tranny cooler, and remove TM??

Quick Reply: Shiftkit ,Converter etc.
