Default Should I get a new oil pump?

Planning on changing the cam to a Old Man Truck cam. I will also order later on a JWIS timing chain and the lifter tool and valve spring compressor. I am on a tight budget, should i save and also buy the Ls6 ported oil pump? I currently have no problems with the one Ive got. Trying to save were ever I can.

from what I've read the oil pump is a weak point in the oiling system and a ported oil pump goes a long way to help.

A ported pump from Thunder is about $130-140. At least when I purchased mine. If I had 40,000 miles on my motor, I'd do it. I'd also replace the chain, but it's all personal preference.

What chain would you recommend Ben?

I just threw in a new stock chain and gears. Plus an LS6 oil pump. I decided against the ported pump. Something to remember if you are using an ASP pulley and you go with a double roller. I dont think the pulley will work after that. The oil pump has to be shimmed out because of the thicker chan.

I went with a Rollmaster double roller chain. You can get them from Scoggin Dickey.
