Simple starter help please
I obviously have a few posts over on LS1Tech and have been driving a Camaro since June of 1995 but I need help. Since knowing my wife she has had a '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and then a '04 Ford Exploder XLT. I just bought my wife her first Chevy and we got her a '06 Silverado with the 4.8L. My questions are what is the name of the engine itself, LQ _ ? Also what type of cat-back is best with these or is it the same as the F-body world in performance gains by manufacturer? CAI preferences? This is not a keeper truck for us for more than two or three years for us we figure. Simple bolt ons with nice relative gains in both power and gas consumption are really what is being looked at. Thanks for any help.

I am staying away from a swap for two reasons. One, the Camaro has earned a engine upgrade in the realm of 408-440. Two, this is a temporary vehicle in reality to us and the little things that help a small amount are easier to swallow. Thanks for the engine type! This is a whole new world for me then!

The best place to spend your money would be on a custom tune. Blackbear, Nelson, and Wheatly are all reputable on this site and are sponsors. Most CAI's will net similar gains, its really just preferance. I have a K&N soon to be for sale As far as a cat back, thats really going to be more a preferance of sound than power. You could save yourself alot of cash and just buy a muffler and have it welded up rather than buying a complete cat-back. If you want performance exhaust wise, long tube headers are the way to go. And just fyi, the 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0's in the trucks are pretty much the same from 99'-06'. Same intake, accessories, bolt on's, etc. That will help if your looking to buy used stuff.

I figured stock pipe had a big enough diameter for what I was trying to accomplish, which is just mild gains. Flowmaster are crap on these too like the F-bodies? What is the general consensus for best sound and gain? I'm dumping the tailpipes since I'm not to into tips that need to be maintained or viewed in general.

LS1Sounds is a great site for that too, but it's more musclecar themed. I figure the sound difference with a 4.8 over a 5.7+ is pretty great. A Magnaflow was what I was thinking, have there been rasp issues with it? I want mellow in town with no long drive drone but a statement of sound when we get on it. Gibson I have heard for years are the truck badasses I just don't want to spend a small fortune!
