I've been running a 160* stat for about 6 years now, and I've been happy with it so far, although after some debate in a thread a while back, I've decided to up to a 180* stat the next time around, if I ever have a problem with this one or swap in my LQ9, whichever comes first. Seems the LS engines are their most efficient when running between 180-200* from what I remember from that thread. Stock stat is 194* btw. If you search either 160 stat or 160 thermostat, you should find a multi-page thread that I'm referring to...

$24 has to be the 04+ that is just the t-stat, the 99-03 has the t-stat and housing as one piece, and I doubt that you'll find that one for less than $50.
