Default small cam ideas..

looking to put a small cam (95% for the sound not power) with a decently low LSA 112-115 so it has some nice lope to it, but its going in my little c10 which is my DD now and I wanna keep the supporting mods to a minimum. so no stall for sure.

Ive looked and listened to the ls6 cam but the LSA is kinda high and really doesn't sound much different to me, the GM hot cam sounds good but due to the higher duration it'd be a pain to drive without a stall..

thoughts?

Unfortunately the lope in the idle that you are after is also what makes a lot of cams painful to DD.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a big cam to lope, and it could have a ton of low end power, but its manners still wont be great.

Something like a 212/218 on a 108 would chop really nice and be pretty damn snappy... but wouldnt offer much else.

Naturally everyone will prob say go custom grind. You can get away with a 212-218 duration cam on 112lsa and drive it with out a big converter. Worst case if your on a budget is find a trailblazer I6 converter. It has a slighter higher stall speed then the truck converter, alot of guys hav used them with great results.

If you are after the sound, check out the comp thumpr series. The stage 1 should give you a nice sound along with not needing a big converter. Have you considered getting a restalled factory converter? I am running a restalled factory vette converter, and it works great!! It foot brakes around 1800-2000 if i push it, but has great street manners and really you can't tell it has been changed... I am running the 215/223 .604/.610 lift 112 comp cam and it has 0 chop. Sounds completely stock unless you are really listening hard then you get a hit of a cam sound.

what makes you think a "higher" duration cam with a stock stall will be a pain to drive? if it's tuned worth a damn it'll be just fine. I drove my '01 4.8 with stock stall and 224/228 .572" 112 cam for over a year that way and it was a teddy bear daily driving.

You posted in my thread saying you think you wanted the 212/218 which is what I have. I posted videos in that thread and you can hear the lope which is what you want. And that was without headers, so naturally it'll sound better with them.

A simple Cheater cam will do the trick-- 224/224 is a tried and proven cam for the ls series motor, and your driveability will not suffer if you have a good tune.
