Default so after reasearching this is my descision :)

hi guys well ive done a little research and want to know what you guys think

so my truck is pretty old being my dads old truck and he drove it like crazy it has 100 000 miles on it so this is my reasoning for doing this

heres the list

-408 TSP short block (help me decide which options)
-Patriot LQ9 heads Assembled (or maybe home port to keep my cost down)
-TR220 or 224 have not yet decided (maybe you can help)
-magniflow catback
-Finish Line Trans Stage 5 (unless its too rough of a ride)
-headers of some sort
-an intake manifold thats kind of cheap and bolts up no issues
-high flow cat
-k+n intake
-electric fans?
-electric wp?
-180 tstat
-yank 3000 stall

did i miss anything? does this sound good? anyone predict some numbers for me?

also is anyone running the 408 from TSP is it reputable? reliable?

thanks
J

a 220-224 cam on a 408? I think it's just going to disappoint you. I would get one in the mid 230 range with about .600 lift. Just my .02

It's going into a heavy Escalade, the 220-224 would be a great cam I think for brute low end and mid range. Let the heads take care of high winding rpm's.

exactly what i was thinking its going to tow my GP to the track and run down the track a couple times...

but i think i just might rebuild a stock LQ9 throw the 220 or 224 in there with home ported heads to keep costs down... then a maggie for later on

im pretty sure a stock motor LQ9 is strong enough for 550hp if i even get to that...

how important is valve size? is it always worth going oversized? i would think the LQ9 heads have big enough valves but maybe im wrong?
and are 39# injectors enough?

talked to vince at FLT and ill probably call him later this week for a trans

any other suggestions?
thanks for the help guys

What about not touching the internals at all and instead bolt on a Kenne Belle twin screw supercharger?

It sounds like you're going pretty deep here. So here's what I'd do.

TSP 408
Ported and polished LS6 heads (patriot, WCCH, etc)
Yank TT3000
TR230, TSP MS3, cams something along those lines
FLT LVL 5 4L60e
bigger injectors/fuel pump
Fast 90mm intake w/TB of your choice (LS1tech GenIII ext. engine has a great thread on TBs)

He said it is for towing, and it is a heavy Escalade so a 3000 converter is too big. I would stay stock or maybe a 2600. Definitely no higher than 2800.

As for cam you need something for the instant torque and would not go muvh bigger than a 224.

I know I have an entire different motor but with my 383, i would not even mind goign with something a tad smaller than my 218/224 especially with my 35s. Note it is not bad at all and a 2600 converter would fix it easily but if it were for towing I would go with a tad smaller cam.

If gas mileage is an issue why not a going with a Lingenfelter Gt2-3 cam or a GT7 cam if you want bigger and just supercharge it?

A 408 isn't going to have a problem towing no matter what cam he puts in it (within reason).

According to Yank, the TT3000 is made for towing.

I just don't see the point of going thru the hassle of a 408 and then putting a tiny cam in it. Otherwise, just stick with the stock LQ9 and put some 4.10 gears in it.
