My vote is still on the Kenne Belle. It's simple and is definitely oriented around the needs of an SUV. Leave the rest of the truck alone.

The LQ9 in that Escalade has plenty of power to tow 10,000lbs with the weight mostly over the trailer axles. It'll squat low, but if my '02 Suburban 5.3L 4x4 can do over 10k lbs, his LQ9 Escalade surely can.

Hmm...my 1600 TCI converter is made for towing. The stock converter is made for towing. Hell I'll even go as far as saying the TrailBlazer converter is made for towing in a light enough 2wd truck. Anything that does not provide the torque sooner than the TB converter is not going to perform like I know an Escalade can tow. I sat shot gun when my friend's dad used his LQ9 Escalade to pull a 4 ton 32ft Sea Ray luxury boat out of the water on a triple axle trailer up the very steep boat launch. Anything but the stock converter and that task would have been even more difficult.

I get tired of saying this. A truck needs it's torque now! Not when some converter says it's ok, halfway up to red line.

again, if he's just towing there's no need to mod whatsoever.

I'm of the opinion that if you're going to do it, do it big. Turn the esco into a beast. Just my opinion.

see there are 2 very different but still good trains of thought here.

Neither one is not necessarily best.
One may be better than the other for a specific application though.
For towing heavy loads, be safe and keep it relatively mild.
For a racetruck, go with a 4500 stall, 4.88 gears, and a 250@.050 cam

Why not go with a 4L80e, instead of the 60? Especially behind that 408, towing, and the weight of that escalade.

wow i just came back from the casino and to my surprise seeing all these posts im just wow

this forum rules!!!

let me answer some burning questions

the 4L80E is an expensive conversion!!! the Truck came with a 4l65 i plan on keeping it because im never gonna break the 550 whp mark for sure... i know the truck is heavy and is gonna tow but its not like im gonna be ripping the truck with 5000 lbs behind it...

i want to upgrade the torque converter for the 60 foots if i brake torque my truck now it only hits 2000 rpm (normal?) id like a bit more rpm off the line thats why i was thinking a 2800-3000 stall

this is really a liezure truck that does both go to the track and pull my grand prix behind it... and at the same time beat some people on the Strip

what about a whipple or is kenne bell better? how about magnuson? best out of the three?

i didnt know this motor was so strong! whats the point of a TSP motor if you can SC, cam and heads a stock motor?

keep the suggestions coming but i think my list has changed to something like this...

-Supercharger of some sort (the best sounding one )
-headers
-some kind of cam (suggestions)
-stock motor with a rebuild
-home port+polished heads ( no wise words on valves???)
-full exhaust
-FLT trans Stage 5 4L65
-2800 stall (is that better??)
-fuel stuff i dont need to worry about i have enough spare stuff from my grand prix

sound good? maybe i should just do cam and heads on a rebuild and forget about the SC?

thanks
J

According to a member form the multimedia forum, who has a 6 liter with a TSP 224 cam and LT headers, stock stall that the low end is as good or better than stock. I used to be for small cams, but my tune is changing. I'm now choosing the TR224 myself.
