Exactly 373's to 410's your not going to tell a whole bunch, just like 42's to 73's.. If your going through the effort to do a center and gear swap, why not go to 410's.. It will compliment the cam better, also pared with the verter, it will be a completely diff truck.. But you have to give some to take some. You can't be worried about gas milliage if you want to put a cam and verter in. Your just not going to get the best of both worlds.. You will lose prob about 1-2mpg in the city.. The highway won't be to to much worse if you get your pcm to lock the verter up at 55mph or so.. Yes your trans is going to take a **** if you stall it. Best thing to do is put a shift kit, a big cooler in. That will atleast prolong the booom... As far as being a dog, it will still be faster then stock, by the time you get to your stall lock up it will pull hard... I would try to get a bigger stall first and see how you like that.. Gas mileage isn't going to be affect to hugely by just a cam swap, but more so on the verter, gears... Try that first, it is easier then swapping cams.....

The TR224-112 will lope more than the 114 (here's a clip of a TR224-114 in a 5.3L and another one with stock manifolds, which both sound pretty godly IMO, but they don't lope like this TR224-112 in a 5.3L). You can always adjust your idle for more or less lope.

I love my setup. I have a very very similar setup to the one you're thinking of running.
I have the comp 224/224 on 112lsa, a Yank ss3600 converter, and 3.73 gears. The truck runs hard. I've trapped as high as 81 and that was before I had Justin at Blackbear tune it and that was with 3.42s.
My gas mileage with 29" tall tires on the highway with that setup was 20-22. With my current 32" tires I get about 18-20. I didn't gain too too much rotational mass(about 10 pounds on each tire), but the cam is a dog under 2000 rpm.
All in all, it's a great setup. I've daily driven it for 2 years now. My only gripe is that it's a bitch to nail down the idle when it's 105* outside. The converter is the issue there though. I never had idle issues with the cam and stock torque converter.

You could always go to 3.92's. I went from 3.42's to Richmond 3.92's in my old 04 crew cab and liked them alot. I was running the cam you are now, but with a 2600 stall. My gas mileage was great though<-----Obviously a benefit of the 2600 stall, LOL.

If you're going to do 3.92s, why not just do 4.10s?
All this crap about picking gears always makes me laugh. Unless you change your rear gear drastically, IN MY OPINION you are wasting your money. I went from 3.42 to 4.11, and yes I did notice a difference, but it wasn't nearly what I was expecting. The MPG "decrease" was negligible to say the least.
My thoughts on mpg concerns... If you're on this site, and you're honestly complaining about mpg, then you're on the wrong damn forum. I'm not saying you can't have performance without having decent mpg, but honestly you're here because you want to go fast, so do it and stop being a bitch about it.

well i appreicate all the informative POSITIVE comments, the reason im going to try 3.73s is the fact i have the gears sitting in my house and my buddy will put them in kno problem, i was wondering about the tr224 compared to the tr220, the cam i have is brand new and they will let me swap out, i called futral and talked to them and they said the tr224 wouldnt be that bad they just recommend the tr220 for a stock compression 5.3. thanks for all ur replies
