spark plugs
ya i was changing my plugs the other day and i came across the weirdest thing. When i pulled the plugs out they said AcDelco NGK. i thought they were two different companies. Whats the deal with this? That was my first question. Im not sure if these are my stock plugs but they looked pretty good. My truck has almost 90K miles on it. Should i change the plugs even though they still look good? Also, if these are the stock plugs what is the average life of a spark plug when should they be changed.

I've heard of that before (the Delco/NGK thing)...they are somehow in cahoots with each other. As far as plug longevity, platinums are good to up to 60k, iridium anywhere from 60k, to 90k, even up to 110k according to some manufacturers, and copper plugs usually between 20-30k depending on application. At 90k, I'd change the plugs even if they look OK. You didn't mention what year/engine you have, but if it's a GENIII (4.8, 5.3, 6.0), alot of us use NGK TR55 plugs with good results. They're copper plugs and you can get them at just about any parts store for less than $2 a plug.

I've had good results with ACDelco plugs in GM applications...and if you have the coin, iridium plugs are excellent for longevity and claim to be good at burning off extra carbon. I ran some Denso iridium plugs for about 10k and they looked perfect as did my combustion chambers when checked with a bore-scope...but they're really expensive.

I switched to NGK not long ago, been running the Denso Iridiums a long time. Only changed because I was running pig rich an fouled them up bad, kinda hard to clean them up with the pinpoint tips on those. I felt better w/ the Denso's, but $$$ is an issue. 12 bucks a piece is high. However, I'm goin back to them next time. I like to buy the best I can get on tune up/ reg. maintenance stuff: fluids, filters, plugs, wires, etc.

I recently installed a set of AC Delco 41-985's in my Silvy. For the price they are worth it, you won't need to change them for another 100 thousand miles. I really like them here is some info on them:

I ended up getting mine at NAPA with thier lifetime wires.

right now I am running a set of tr-55g plugs and they are great, at least alot better than the bosch ones that were in it before. I got mine from napa for like 2.50 each, they are a platinum plug. pep boys can order them for about a buck cheaper each.
