Default SS, 1500HD, or 2500HD

I am in the market for a truck right now. I was planing on a SS but I am worried about the transmission holding up. I am planning on a supercharger, cam, headers, exhaust, stall, and a good tune. What truck would be able to handle the power the best? I know that with the 2500HD, there is some options for different transmissions and rear ends, what would be the best one to go with? If you were going to build a truck up like this, what truck would you start with?

Thanks

either the VHO, but your in Illinois and should be coming out ina few months hopefully. Or you could start with a 2500 not hd and get the 4l80e and the 6.0. good luck drive as many as you can.

As far as longevity out of the chute with few worries, moregrip has it right with a 2500HD. Comes stock with a 6.0L (LQ4 variety), the 4L80E, and a 10.5" rear end that ain't gonna break anytime soon. Get a truck with the 4L60E/4L65E and a 9.5" rear end and you're asking for trouble with power adders. You're either going to be breaking stuff left and right, or you'll be spending a lot of extra time and money beefing up those marginal components, babying them most of the time and hoping they don't break.

I vote for the 2500HD.

The SS is the coolest looking of the bunch. Change the heavy *** wheels out and expect a tranny rebuild and you're set.

The 2500HD is the brute. It'll hold up to the HP but it's the ugliest. Expect to spend some money on wheels and a billet grille and a few other odds and ends to make it look nice. Is also the heaviest.

The VHO is kind of an inbetween. Looks better than a basic HD truck but not as good as an SS. Can handle some power but lack AWD or 4WD which makes for bad traction with big HP. Moderate HP should be fine on the street but will = zero traction at the drag strip without good tires and suspension tweeks.

No matter what truck I get I will get new wheels, and a couple other appearance accessories. I know that the SS looks the best, but with a little paint, I think any of them will look good. I really want to make sure that I have 4WD or AWD. This will be my daily driver so the reliability is important to me. Thanks

I would go with the 2500HD. They are a bit taller off the ground, but i think just having the 4L80E is probably worth it if you plan to add power and want durability. If you want to make it look nicer take a look at moregrip's HD. That thing looks really sweet with the new wheels.

I would go with the 2500HD with the Duramax and the allison 5spd Auto tranny but I would go GMC because they look way better from the front in my opinion. Plus with the Bolt ons I have seen them in the 13s with out the bottle!!

With the mods that I am planning on adding, what do you guys think I would run in the 1/4? I wanted to keep the 6.0L instead of the diesel. I am currently driving a work truck around that is the 6.6L Duramax with the Allinson 5-Speed. I really like it, but I think that I would enjoy modding the 6.0L better.

I had a 02 2500HD, it was a nice truck. Now I have a SS. Its a toss up. I liked my 2500HD, but I think my SS looks way better. If you are going FI or are even thinking of it then the 2500, I think the 05s look alot better. I think of FI all the time , but when I think of what I need to do to the trans it changes my mind.
