It looks like the bolt backed out and smacked against the housing, breaking it.

Did you shim that starter when you put it in?? They usually come with a set of shitty shims........If you didnt shim the starter the selonoid wouldnt seat properly on ur flywheel and that may have been the problem but I do agree it looks like something broke off or that the bolt may have backed out .

Good luck man, Subscribed to see what was the cause!

I've heard about shims but the starter never came with any.

Is that from the install and removal or was that from it getting messed up?

piece of **** starter man. OEM ONLY! I had one I got off ebay, it started making that grinding noise on startup and I pulled it ASAP after that. Put in a low mile one from a trailblazer and haven't had any issues since.

Ok Guys...... Listen and listen very very close ok. I have worked in 2 auto parts stores, Big Name stores that I know you all know by name. I wont tell you the companies but at both stores I worked in when the shipment of new parts come in they usually have the crew stock them during an overnight shift on the day the truck comes in. Now with that being said most of the younger guys were always so happy to have to stay putting **** on the shelves till 3am in the morning that they would ALWAYS try to rush and during their efforts to try and speed things up they would start throwing - sliding parts across the sales floor to get them in the general area they belong. From now on ANYTIME you buy ALTERNATORS,STARTERS,ANYTHING THAT HAS MOVING PARTS, IF THERE IS ANYWAY FOR THE STORE TO CHECK THEM - HAVE THEM CHECK THEM RIGHT THEN AND THERE. i CANT EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW MANY ROTORS AND DRUMS I HAD TO SHIP BACK BECUASE THEY WERE BENT.

This wasnt at crappy places like Vato-zone, these were both big comanies that I know all of you know the names too.

ALWAYS CHECK YOUR PARTS !!!
