i never had that problem on my PS LT's either....maybe they were made a little different , or like someone said before bent frame????

I had to do the same thing once with a set of headers. Go to a hardware store a get a sex bolt. I dont know if thats the correct name for it but that what i have always called them. Its to bolts one is a male thread the other is a female threaded bolt. By using this you wont have a bolt head or nut sticking out. Pm me if you have any questions.
