Default Stereo systems

I am just wondering who all has them and at what point ya'll are stepping up to a bigger altenator.

My lights dim .. kinda bad if I'm playing with it.

Mine goes like this:

Pioneer head unit
Memphis Studio 75x2 pushing Kicker Componant set in doors
Kicker 600.1 pushing 2 Kicker Comp VR's

The amps together equal 90 amps fused, but The main power wire (4guage from battery to wiring block) is fused at 80 amps. I can feel the fuse holder getting warmer than the wire when it's pushing hard.

I also have a 1farad cap between the junction block and bass amp to soften the load, but the lights still dim pretty good.

Hey flyer. I have as follows:
Alpine CDA 9811
MBQuart Premium Components Frt.
Boston 4x6 plates Rears
1 JL 8w7
Custom Ported Enclosure
1 Farad Cap
JL 500.5 Amp w/Remote Bass Controller
Alpine/Viper Responder Alarm

System is awesome, no one can believe its just one 8. It is capable with the right cd, approx 135db. I placed 2nd in my last competition, only because of imagery, wasn't faded to front speakers + sub only. So, to the question, my lights used to dim when a good bass note hit. I played with the idea of a 135A or a 200A. Cheapest, overdrive pulley for stock 105A altenator, stock belt. Works fine, lights on, ac on, and hard bass note, (no dimming of lights at all, stays at 14v on hard hit.) Hope this answers your question, and sorry for the book.

I am running:

Deck: Pioneer DEH-P8500MP
EQ: Audio Control Four.1
Amps: JL Audio 300/4
JL Audio 500/1
Subs: 2 Eclipse 88120.4 Aluminum (12s)
Mids: Diamond Audio M661 (front)
JL Audio XR525-CXi (rear)
Caps: 2 Stinger 1 Farad

I am running 4ga all the way back and 4ga grounds for each amp and I have yet to have any problems. On certain songs my voltage will drop to low 13s but on average it stays above 14v on the stock gauge. Any bigger or if I dropped the impedence the amps see much more and I might have problems. The key is to run efficient amps and dont run really lo wohms loads unless the amp is designed that way but most that are eat up alot of current.

Maybe I should just put in another cap for the big amp. It seems to pull a lot of juice.

How would you go about wiring in a 2nd one? Can you just hook it up in series with the 1st one, like this:

Take the wires that go from the cap to the amp and cut them, and put those wires on the cap?

After the junction block, what are the gauge wires running to individual amps? If your wanting a cap for each amp, you would just wire it the same, or I am gathering that you have one amp before the junction block, then how about a bigger cap. Did you not like the idea of the overdrive pulley? If not, you could get the 200A altenator.

RF 75x2 rms going to the JLaudio components
RF 500x1 going to (2) 8" RF HX2 subs
4guage to the dist.block and 8ga to the amps, then a 4gua ground. 80 amp fuse for the main power

Not sure about the lights dimming, never really seen any problems as far as having to upgrade the alternator. But then again I dont really push it either. Little bit past halfway on the volume hurts

From the junction block to the amps, I'm using 8awg wire. They are also grounded with 8awg, but they are short wires, about a foot from block to bass amp, and about 2 foot ground wire. The cap I have is between the bloack and bass amp.

03GMC .. I know what ya mean. If I crank it hard .. it will make your throat vibrate so much it's hard to swallow, and your eyes get blurry.

You can simply wire the other cap in parallel with the 1st one but make sure the caps have a seeperate ground from the amps. Dont just run em in series with an amp. You can also run one 4ga wire from both caps into the distribution block to supply them with power. They do not have to be directly inline with the amps. As long as they are connected to the distribution block you'll be fine.

Now that being said, if you are having charging issues another cap wont fix it. It maye help but it is merely a bandaid. Just buy a bigger alternator and save the headaches
