Stroke out 5.3 to 390 or replace with 408 stroker?
I am anxiously awaiting my quote from my local speed shop in my attempt to make my 02 Yukon SLE think and act like a 2006 TBSS.
They are going to quote me prices on 2 options.
Option 1, Stroke out my 5.3 to turn it into a 390.
Option 2, Build a 408 stroker and swap out for the 5.3
Obv the hp and torque will be different for each, depending on the parts used.
So I was curious what others would do, have done, given these choices. Curious as to comments on reliability, bang for buck, ability to handle boost at later date, etc., whatever you can share. Estimates on price welcome too, although I am guessing it will be at least as expensive as putting the Maggie on my Denaili with headers, wires, injectors, labor etc i.e 10k Cdn (9k US) or so.
Bow to the knowledge and wisdom of Forum
Thanks

Mark at Campbells told me that the fellow with the stroked 5.3 and magnacharger was still running his stock tranny, but that it was starting to weaken ...... so depending on how much I feel the need for speed would probably go down that road sometime soon.
I saw in another post you were thinking about stroking out your 6.0 as well. Did you get any cost estimates? Or going to do it yourself (envy).

Ya I will do it myself. No estimates, don't really wanna know. Just one day it will die and the parts will be on order type of thing. Untill then, I just need more boost and let 'er rip!
Look forward to hearing how you make out though.

I am just gathering info at this stage, but I should strike while iron is hot (had spousal approval to buy 2006 TBSS last night but the damn thing was too small in height for my taste! - Quick like a bunny though).

Is 10 or 11 K using new block, crank, pistons, rods, cam, heads, intake, valve train, exhaust, etc... or is there some used or re-built parts involved. What about actual swap and tuning, is that included or extra?
