Nice ring compressor, pair of calipers, dial bore gauge, mics, and to get good accurate ones its going to cost you. CHP had an issue a couple months ago with a step by step build, Ill see if I can dig it up for you and scan it or cliff note it for you and the tools they used.

The 317's will work, maybe not as good as some of the aftermarket heads or reworked heads but they will work.

I'd build it NA for now but planning for a turbo setup in the future....you think ported heads would be worth it? I don't want to spend $$ on things that will only net me NA gains.

I think the Stock heads will serve you fine.

Diamond pistons tend to be a bit heavy. JE, Mahle, and Ross are nice. Eagle will be mroe then enough for the rods and crank, dont spend the extra cash for the crank, if the stocker can handle 1000hp just think what a forged crank can handle. I would go with the setup Rhino posted its a good mix of good parts and a good price.

I'll have to call around and see how much one of the local shops would charge me to put a shortblock together. I don't want to buy $600 worth of tools, but I think I'd get a little bit ripped to buy a full shortblock from someone. Maybe someone here in Phoenix has the tools to help me put the shortblock together. I'll have to post over on Tech and see. I'll price out Rhino's setup tomorrow.

Seems to me like I have 4 options:

1. Buy a built shortblock
2. Buy a balanced rotating assembly and the tools and build it myself (or find someone who has the tools to help me)
3. Buy a balanced rotating assembly and have a shop build the motor
4. Buy individual components, have it balanced somewhere, and either di it myself or have a shop do it

I like #2 the best

Although....the 6.0 block is worth about $400-500, and if it cost me $500 or so to have a shop build the motor, it would be worth it to pay an extra $800-900 or so for a built shortblock....hmmmmm.....decisions, decisions....

Going price around here is about 400 to assemble a shortblock from a guy who does it on the side. Just an FYI. Buy it as a complete rotating assembly that way you know everything works together and has already been balanced.

If I go with a full shortblock, what do you think about this?

http://texas-speed.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=46

If I put .065" head gaskets on it I think my CR will be just a hair above 9.5:1

Planning on buying a good oil pump, but other than that the rest of the stock parts should be up for the task.....I think.....

Chill the **** out. It was a perfectly normal conversation until you felt some super-awesome need to step in and declare it to be otherwise.
