STS Turbo Questions For The DYIer
I am thinking about the STS kit on my Avalanche. I have always been a DYIer and was wondering what if any troubles a DYIer with mechanical knowledge(built 3 motors and 2 frame up hotrods) would run into?? I am sticking with just the 5 psi setup for a while considering I have never had a vehicle with boost and figure I would keep her at 5 until i get really used to it.
As far as install what is actually required besides removal of muffler and intake? How is the oil system plumed..do I need to drop the pan and remove a valve cover to plum it?
I did a search and most guys here have had a shop do it so i haven't found answers to my questions.
Any help from either the STS guys or anyone for that matter would be appreciated.

Just Install Mine Last Weekend. Very Simple To Install. It's A True Bolt on. Only Need To Drill And Tap Oil Pump Block Off For Turbo Oil Pump. Piece Of Cake. And If You Tow This Thing Realy Works. More Power And Better Gas Milege.

I looked at an STS installation on a 4.8L 2004(?) and I was impressed.
Besides mounting the turbo where the muffler goes, fabricating a taillpipe (using the factory one looked like hell) and routing the compressor discharge line up into the engine compartment, the oil system seemed to be the next complex task. It looked like the oil supply was taken off of the boss above the oil filter. I think you can buy that pre-tapped as a Corvette PN or do it yourself
The oil of the engine went to a pump, but it wasn't clear to me if the pump was scavenge or pressure. Oil was returned to the engine's oil cap on the right rocker cover. It had a quick disconnect so you could get the cap off to fill with oil, which was kind of goofy.
The intake airbox was removed and the inlet duct from the turbo was connected right at the MAF
It looked to me that you should plan on upgrading to 42# injectors and an inline pump if you were going to run anything more than a few psi of boost, just as insurance. Boost is addictive - you will want more so you might as well plan for it now. It would also be good to run it across the dyno and LS1 edit - they said $500 for that.

I will eventually up the boost but considering I have never driven a boosted vehicle 5psi will be fine for now. Also the budget is kinda tight so I will not be dynoing my truck at all. I was looking for a straight bolt on performance mod and so far the STS seems to be the way to go. If I want to upgrade I can always do that later when funds become available.
