I'm in the middle of trying to make up my mind between going for a D-max or modding the hell out of the 4.8/1500 which I am leaning towards. 90% of the point of the diesel would be durrability but for what it will cost I can swap in an LS1 crate in 2 years and rock on. Considering the weight difference, I'm really thinking of sticking with the 1500 since the only terrain I like offroad is longopen trails and the sand dunes.
The power now is "ok' but the new tires kinda killed that along with some of the braking. Id like to see a bit more power out of it without killing my warante. Simple bolt ons like headers, catback, intake and such. Reversable things. Even a tune.
Has anyone had any expierene in doing this? Dyno/track/SOTP numbers?
Also anyone have costs on these parts? I'm kinda new to the truck/LSx world.

Out in the sand power is all that important, not as much as in racing. I just want more for the street. I think i'm going to go with some headers, intake, exhuast, brake upgrade, 6'' lift, prerunner bars lights.
I can always apply the bolt ons to the LS1 and in 2 years the LS1 will be hold news and the LS2/LS7 will be

In that case get a Nelson tune, Long tubes, Volent intake, Electric fans, and underdrive pully. Thats going to give you the most out of the 4.8 on the street, and cost @ $1500 for it all.
If you get really froggy, get some 4.10 or 4.56 gears to go with the big tires.

I dont want to pully anything, I'll need to PS going full blast and the alterator as well. Do pullys make a difference in these cars?
Where can I get long tubes and how is the install?
ps-what about a catback

I dont want steeper gears, I cruise around 80-85mph on the highway

I think i'll go the bolt on route and if its not enough, Crate LS1 and a mild cam it is!
