Default summit tech tells me LTs are no better than shorties 4 trucks

a summit tech today asked me "why do you want those longtube headers anyway? truck engines react the same to shorties as to long tubes." i told him i have always heard the opposite, but hes sure that shorties are just as efficient in creating power as longtubes, and claims he has seen this proof. he wasnt trying to sell me anything, he just told me not to waste my money on longtubes.

I know torque and low end power are supposed to be better with shorties. I guess it just depends on what you want to do with them. Towing and stuff like that, then yeah shorties may be better. But for drag racing I think the high end power from the long tubes outweighs the torque losses.

Lt are better for low end torque than shorties. In fact they are better for top end too. The only place they are not better is in the wallet.

You got that backwards. Longtubes produce more lowend torque and dont sacrifice flow up top where as shorties will usually only give you higher rpm power. Also with the design of our stock castiron manifolds, they will flow about the same as a set of shorties.

The summit tech you talked to must be the same one this guys talked to...

A summit tech once told me that this trick billet metering block would work on my stock 750 holley carb. Turned out it only worked on the companies billet main body. I hydraulicked my engine with fuel and broke several teeth off my starter ring gear.

Never put 100% trust in a mailorder warehouse tech that deals in the kind of volume that summit and jegs do. Some know what works and a lot don't. They're just reading sales promo write ups for their knowledge.

Now if you call up one of the sponsors here I'd take their word seriously. More specialized service and a smaller product line keeps the knowledge level much higher.
