SUPERCHIPS TUNER KILLED MY TRUCK
I just got my superchips tuner. I was interested in it more than hypertec because of full rpm programming. Anyways, it loaded the programming from the truck to the tuner. Then started to download the new program. It stopped and said that ign was off or cable was disconnected. Wrong. After calling tech support, they want me to unhook bat cables and let it set fot 1/2 hr. Did that and still won't fire. Truck is at the dealer now. I assume that this is going to cost me big $$ even though it is under warranty. Anybody been through this. I think I screwed up buying superchips. They told me that a voltage change would cause the problem that I have. I think that is a load of $hit. I had eveything off, radio, fan, radar, hell I didn't even open the door for the dome light to come on. It seems this a common thing from superchips, how about hypertec????

anytime you are in the SEND part of programming if it stops/loses connection any time before the entire program is finished you will wish it hadn't. It has happened to a few guys with ls1 edit, im not sure if there is a way to fix this now, but a few months ago it was pretty much just a fried pcm and you had to buy another. pretty crappy

The dealer might be able to reflash the computer for you but, I think that is ~$75-$100.
I've used Microtuners, HPP3's, and that Steve Cole tuner thing(don't remember name) and have never had a problem.
I always make sure the cable is supported so it has no chance of moving and I walk away from the vehicle so I don't accidentaly hit something when programming. How low was your battery voltage. I know mine sits at around ~10volts without the vehicle running. Low voltage can cause problems also.
If the dealer can't reflash the PCM and you have something else to drive you can get a new PCM from "valvegod" for alot cheaper than the dealer. Of course it will still have to be flashed.
Did you ask if Superchips would reflash your computer if you sent it to them? I'm sure they have the necessary equipment.

Oops, you can find Valvegod by doing a search in the parts classified section.

Re: SUPERCHIPS TUNER KILLED MY TRUCK
Well I'm still under warranty so I have that little hope that they will fix it up. Superchips said that I could send it to them but I need the truck to work. Where is the pcm on these newer trucks, still behind the glove box? that was the location on my 95. I regret even buying this damn thing now. My volts when it happened, that was first thought of a problem, was about 13. I have a good battery because I push snow with the truck. I think that it is the tuner but what do I do. Superchips also said something about the onstar computer communticating and that could cause a problem. I guess that I will be sending the tuner back to pay for the repair.
thanks

In the installation instructions they tell you which fuses to pull to disable onstar before you even connect the tuner up. I've got superchips tuning and I love it - it absolutely rocks. Night and day difference between stock tuning and it. Sorry to hear about your problems but reguardless if you've got onstar or not you should've read all the instructions before trying to install it.

That happened to me when I wrecked my 01 GMC. I decided to put it on my dad's 01 Chevy and it stopped in the middle of programming and said it had to be updated. The truck wouldn't start either so I was going to replace my extra pcm with his so he could drive it. But it started up fine the next day. It may have something to do with the vats security or something. I discinnected the battery and everything, still didn't work. But it sits overnight and cranks up fine.. ..go figure.

FYI Same thing happened to me with a Hypertech on a 96 Silverado years ago. I called Hypertech and they first tried to brush me off but when I got irate they overnighted a new tuner free of charge and it loaded and allowed the truck to start.

I can scan them if you like. I read the directions top to bottom twice before even getting the tuner out of the box. Than sat in the truck and went step by step folloeing word for word. I didn't make a mistake. You are one of the reasons that I bought the tuner. You have had nothing but +'s to say about it. I thought that you had install problems also?? My programmer # is 2285.
