There are several cars that come with Mobil 1 factory fill, the corvette is one of them. Porsche uses it, BMW uses it. They wouldn't use it as factory fill if it causes problems.

btw, i don't know about in Bossier, but my local walmart sells it for dirt cheap now. you can buy a 5quart container, and then another 1 quart container for a little over 20 bux + tax

if you want to change, at least try the 50/50 mix of dino and synthetic oil 2-3 times and then go to full synthetic.

What is the cons of switching to synthetic early? I switched over at 500 miles. Got right at 50000 now. Not a single problem.

Re: Switching to mobil 1 synthetic tomorrow-10w30 or 5w30?
I don't get how people say 5w-30 is lighter then 10w-30... only in cold start it is. According to that website that listed the reason not to switch to synthetic oil the vehicle he was "preparing" had over 150,000 miles on it! I use either Mobil 1 0w-40 (specially in winter) and AMSoil 5w30 whenever. And breaking in an engine is not like how it was 30 years ago, none the less I would avoid long cruising until 1,000 miles or so. The "break in parts" flat tappet camshafts, soft vavle seats and are obsolete now we have laser hardend cylinder liners. In a 50,000 mile GEN III V8 switching to synthetic oil, worrying about it for a second you have already worried too long, providing it has had a good service history previous. Not to mention all synthetics (except mobil 1,amsoil,redline) are just modified Dino oil and are pretty overpriced...Yes Quaker State, Castrol Syntec and Pennzoil synthetic are just dino oil that has been given some additives. sorry for the long post but I got my point across.

I e-mailed Allen Futral, he said it wouldn't hurt my truck. He also said, that there is no need to flush it and that it all blends.

Re: Switching to mobil 1 synthetic tomorrow-10w30 or 5w30?
I ran a run of Mobil1 5-30 in my old truck and got ssome valve clatter, I switched to 10-30 and it went away.
I went shopping last night and noticed that the 15-50 said that it was best suited for FI engines. I grabbed a bottle of it .. but I am seriously thinking it may be a little to thick.
Anyone else have an opinion?

I agree, done switch if your truck has high miles on it. The only reason is teh gaskets and seals are wearing out and the synthetic oil will leak. Since the oil molecules are smaller.
