Ok i have read alot about this i heard by taking the screen out of the MAS u can get like 5 hp so what are yalls thoughts and have anyone does this??

Good luck...

The screen is there for a reason. Not a debris blocker.
It straightens out the air flow before it goes over the Sensors to determine how much incoming air the engine is seeing.

You can take it out if you want, but most the times your gonna run into problems and have to buy another one.

I bet most of those "+5HP" claims come from them having a dirty MAF screen to begin with. Usually a quick spray down with electrical contact cleaner, followed by an air dry, is enough to return it to like new condition.

mine has been removed on all my chevys. Never had a problem, but no actual proof it does much removing it.

F-bodies de-screen all them time with little issue and claimed decent gains. I personally am on the fence and can tell you both of my maf screens are intact.

Basically if it is worth 5 hp, its not worth the time to do it. and I highly doubt it is 5 hp, a dyno is accurate but not that pin point to make readings 100%. You will never miss 5 hp in something of this weight and size.

Screened 01 LS6 and unscreened 02-04 LS6 OEM MAFs.
GM was able to do this on the Vettes because of its straight air intake tract. Not so much on the trucks

In the Vettes, GM engineers state that 2-3 hp was found swapping from the screened 75mm MAFs to the screened 85mm MAFs.

The screen no screen debate stems for the TPI Vette and Fbody cars whos MAFs were hugely restrictive. No so on teh modern vehicles.
