Default Texas Speed Heads/Cam Package

Hey guys,

I've got an 02 RCSB Silverado with a 4.8 and I am looking to do some upgrades.

I am currently looking at the Stg 2.5 5.3 Heads and 224R cam from Texas Speed. I figure with the right converter, this could be a nice little setup for a daily driver.

My problem is this. I am eventually going to upgrade to an LS1. Will this heads/cam setup work ok on the LS1? Or will the extra displacement make the cam worthless?

On the flipside, will a heads/cam setup that works well on the LS1 be too radical on a 4.8?

I want to do things in stages, and I dont want to have to buy parts twice. Also, Im not locked in on the Texas Speed stuff, so if there is another setup that you like, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Sure it will all work. Just get a pretty decent sized cam for the 4.8 that way when u get the ls1 it won't be too small. For example 224/228 cam with a 3600-4000 stall on the 4.8 will work good for the ls1 as well and u can restall the converter if u feel the need to

I had the 224R in my LS1 and it was a good cam for a DD even without a stall or gears. Pretty sure your gonna want a bigger cam down the line though.

Why an LS1? You could probably go with a LQ9 for cheaper, and have alot more potential.

But I'm still somewhat of a noob, the expets will chime in.

i think i would go with a 224/228 for biggest cam in 4.8 and nice cam in ls1 cam. the 5.3 heads are well proven in ls1. both cam and heads would also work well in 6.0 if you opted to go that route also.

Well I can pick up an LS1 shortblock pretty cheap and easy, so that's a factor.

Plus, I plan on keeping it N/A, so the strength of the iron block isn't necessary.

And lastly, the idea of dropping 100lbs off the front end of the truck is pretty appealing.

With the right combo of parts, the LS1 has plenty of potential, and will easily be able to meet my goals. (~400whp N/A) I'm just looking to get some pep into the 4.8 before I dig into a motor swap.
