Default Thermostat question

I just put the 180* thermostat in my truck and I was wondering something.

When I crank it up and let it set for a few minutes it won't go above 180*. That's good!

However, when I start driving, it goes right back to almost 210*. That's not so good!

It's that just the way it is, or did I screw up?

Did you burp the cooling system? Maybe you left some air pockets and that is what is causinig you to run a little hotter.

Yeah I got all the air pockets out. It's not running any hotter than it was, but its just not at 180* like I expected.

My 160 thermostat runs at 180 all day. I have always heard that the thermostate runs about 20 degrees warmer than what it is rated to open at. It does not cool the motor any better, it just opens sooner, which in turn keeps the motor cooler than letting the motor get to 215 to start cooling down.

Same with my 160. Stays at 180 all day. One concern of mine is that whenever I turn on the A/C, it shoots up to the 200 mark. Is that normal?
When I installed the 160, I told my HPP3 that it was there. What exactly does it do? I think the booklet says it advances the timing??

I just put in a 180* stat and my engine runs at 195* according to my Predator, so much for keeping the engine cooler.
