Thorley tri-Y headers ?
I can get a set for 440$, but they are chrome plated, anyone ever use these before? Do I have to get them coated? I am a little confused about the coating bizness, The gibson i got now are chromed and look fine after 2 years, too bad they suck, but I have read where some people strongly recommend coating on Lt headers. It would cost like 200 to remove the chrome and have them prettied back up. Any suggestions?

I had Doug Thorley's on my 454SS and they worked pretty damned good. Not as nice as my AS&Ms but they are also cheaper.
I highly recomend jethot coating on any headers. It is so nice if you work on your truck a lot.

Don't foget that Jet Hot is not the only vendor for coatings. One also very good coater is Swain Tech http://www.swaintech.com/
Their coatings are awesome and are actually a little thicker then Jet Hot IIRC. However, some people may not dig the color of their coatings. Ever seen white headers?

Quote off of Thorley website
" Does the chrome coating make the headers hotter? First of all, headers in and of themselves don’t make anything hotter. More horsepower equals more heat. By allowing the heat to escape more easily through the headers, you will have a cooler-running engine. Chrome acts as insulation. It keeps the heat in the pipes, so the header pulls it out more efficiently. Our chrome is also used as a deterrent to rust."

Just a thought... If you can find the right ceramic coater, you might be able to get a clear ceramic coating over the chrome. Keep the shine and add the protective layer over it...
