What is your opinion on them and are they a worth while cost? I was looking at the new ceramic coated ones, but holy-crap over $650. Or would you just go stainless considering the length of the headers (amount of actuall exhaust sytem coated)?

I've heard 5-7 HP from the JBA shorties. The stock exhaust manifolds flow pretty well and it's hard to really improve on them a whole lot unless you go long throw.

 

I did mine at the same time that I did my cat-back and definitely gained some power, but that's probably mostly from the cat-back. Went with the stainless (they didn't offer coated at the time) and they do have surface rust, but are not rusting through. Fit and quality is excellent, and after 3 years, gaskets are still intact (knock on wood-no jinx please). The only clearance problem I had was slight contact with the steering shaft under certain conditions, but I cured that by loosening the gear box and shifting it straighter...the steering shaft actually spins more true now. Had to do an alignment afterwards, but had access to a rack at the time so no big deal. I'm very happy with them, but if you want real power long tubes are the way to go. For easy installation and CARB certification, the Gibsons are a nice set IMO.

 

I seemed to have gotten a little more low end torque w/ the shorties than w/ just the cat-back itself. but will soon be taking the cat-back off...Zed

 

I have a friend who has some Gibson shorties and seems like he gain a little high end. Not worth it in my opinion.

 

I have them and like them for the price. I didnt want to spend $700+ for LT's either.

 

Looks like I might just give up the idea and go with the LT's. The LT's will be more expensive due to the added install cost. But a comparison to say ASM that are ceramic coated to Gibson shorties ceramic coated, you are only talking 100 beans. Not that much more expensive.

I now need to decide on which LT to go with. ASM are ceramic coated but TOGS boast about some major hp gains.

 

TOG's have CARB approval if that makes a difference to you.

 

Live in SC. They got rid of madatory vehicle inspections years ago. Pretty much the rule of thumb seems to be if you have lights on it, you can drive it. Kinda sucks though. Nothing worse than driving behind a beater that doubles as a mosquito fogger.
