Default Thrust bearing, crank play 3/16" of play

I pulled my motor because it was untuneable, now that i have it down to the short block i noticed the crank has about 3/16 of an inch play sliding in and out. Im wondering if you guys think the thrust bearing went bad?

Is there **** in the pan? If its out, you can just pull the pan and look at the bearing.

Yes. But they don't usually just go bad for no reason. Did you balloon a converter?

Measure it with a dial indicator. Normal is .004~.008'', If over .020'' there is serious probs. .010'' of thrust can feel like a lot more than it actually is.

I'm gonna pull the pan today, the motor getting some forged parts, cam, heads for the turbo build I'm doing now. I just wanted to see if my unstable oil psi, and crazy KR could be from a bad thrust bearing. I will make sure to post up what I find in the oil pan latter. And about ballooning the converter this whole problem started at 1500 miles after putting the motor in I got on it and it feel on its face and never ran right again. O well going FI now already have the turbo Kit, 4l80e, and a few other goodies just hoping I have better luck this time.

I bought my 6.0 with 150k miles on it. Owner said it had low oil pressure, after i tore it down and inspected it, i found the thrust bearing was destroyed. Also destroyed the crank too. Had to buy a new crank. But there was also about 3/16 play, probably even more..make sure it didnt dig a groove in the crank where the thrust bearing rides. If so, you need a new crank

I'll post pictures of what I find tonight.
