Are ti. retainers needed?

Default Are ti. retainers needed?

I just picked up a comp cam 212/218 .559 .563 114+4, i know i need to get 7.40 hardend pushrods right? Do i really need the titanium retainers?

No, there not needed. Some say they are over kill, mainly better for higher spinning engines. If people do get them its just for an extra edge because it lightens up the valve train a little to lessen valve float, again, happening at high rpm's. You shouldn't be spinning that engine very high so unless you just want to spend the money than I would save your money.

I would first get some better springs then some hardened pushrods(7.400") in that order. Get some Comp Cam 918 springs for that cam with a 550+ lift. I would only get titanium retainers if I was going to spin my engine past 6500 to reduce the moving mass and help the valvetrain moving better.

Thanks a bunch Guys, this is what i wanted to hear. I think i already have the springs and the pushrods so i am just going to go with that for now. i had another questions though.

What should i shift at with this cam? 5900?

I have the same cam as you just lower lift and I am shifting at about 6200. I am serously considering upping the shift points just a tab bit because it's still pulling at those rpm's.

Honestly you don't need hardened rods either, but it's smart. TFS makes a set that are $80...just get the correct diameter and order them from Summit to save some cash.

Ti retainers I don't see you needing unless you're thinking on crazy RPM.
