Default Tick Tick Tick... Injector or lifter?

Started up the truck today and thought I had an exhaust leak so I poked around my engine compartment it sounds like it is a lifter or possibly an injector. Has anyone had an injector suddenly start making a lot of noise? I was thinking about unplugging the injectors one at a time to troubleshoot the problem, I just don't want to damage the injectors or ECU. Anyone ever unplug them while the motor was running?

Check your header gaskets.

It's a bomb...run!

When do you hear it (at idle, driving)?

It didn't seem to change at any temp. I checked the gaskets and the header bolts and everything seems to be sealed and tight so thats what got me thinking lifter or injector.

Injectors don't usually get excessively noisy, so I doubt that's your problem. You can unplug them with the engine running though, I do it at work all the time while hunting down cylinder misfires. You could have a bad lifter, loose rocker, exhaust leak, etc.

Exhaust leak should be getting louder with more throttle. Is the noise constant?

if it goes away or quiets down when it gets warmer its probably piston slap...its normal with these motors...the piston skirts are really short and when they start to get some tolerance in the cylinders they 'slap' around until the engine warms up...

or...what weight oil are you using...depending on that it could just be that it needs a thinner weight oil for the colder temps...just an idea
