Unhappy Timing chain rattle

A few months ago my truck,'00 EXSB Z71, started ratteling when it sits for any good amount of time and started up. Im pretty sure it is slack in the timing chain. It goes away after a few seconds of the motor running. It was about 18 degrees a few week ago and it continued for about 10 or 12 seconds. Its embarassing as crap and sucks because my last truck, '95 Nissan 4x4 did the same crap. I just find this bad since the truck only has about 108,000 miles. I kick my self in the azz for not replacing the chain and gears when I was pulling the cam back out and I knew then it had a good amount of slack in the chains. Anybody else had this problem?? There isnt any bullitens for the rattle with the 5.3. I guess for those miles, using 2 quarts of oil from oil change to oil change, 198hp, and being paid for , its just gonna be.

Dang how did you get that thing wore out so fast. My 5.3 has about the same amount of miles on it and uses no oil between 5000 mile changes. Don't know about the t-chain slack yet but getting ready to find out soon.

Im the 3rd owner of this truck and I worked on it about 80% of its visits to the dealership. Ive owned it since Jan '03 and it had 55k on it. It wasnt driven hard from the first 2 owners and has had Mobil 1 5w30 since 10k miles. I drive the truck hard everytime I drive it. I know the motor does have some small issues like oil fouling the number 2 plug once and a while. My co-worker has told me several times when I leave hard I get some puffs of blue smoke. Now I almost never drive the truck hard when its cold and usually let it warmup a few minutes before I drive it after a long sit. Oil changes are once a year since I have only driven it about 4k miles a year for the past 2 years since I got a beater.

Well I fiinally got the new chain and gears on. The stock chain was a good 1/4 inch longer than the new chain. No more noise as of right now.
