Could someone tell me the exact way to line up the timing gear? 6-12 dot to dot ? intake stroke , compression stroke? Heard 10 different ways from 5 people lol.

It starts fine, yall do it on the compression stroke?I'm having a tapping that gets louder/faster with throttle. Also my tuner said he had to add 200% more air to get it to idle, an it is chugging 260 cranking compression...cam is a 228/236 588 578 111+4, has 862s ported an milled .030, 7.4 pushrods.

I was running 7.4 rods with these heads with no problem before the cam swap.

You need to tear it back down and check things out, something is not correct.

When you put the timing gears dot to dot this puts #6 at tdc of the compression stroke, and #1 at tdc of the exhaust stroke. When they are facing away from each other then #1 is at tdc on the compression stroke and #6 is at tdc on the exhaust stroke.
