Default Titanium Retainers and Dual Springs

In case anyone's getting ready to buy springs, Crane has fresh supplies in-stock of their new LS-1 dual spring and titanium retainers to go with it. I just ordered a set of each a little while ago.

titanium retainers are never required. it is an up grade over steel cause they are lighter. there fore making the valvetrain lighter. lighter valve train has many positive effects.

Dual springs are supposed to have slightly better durability than the popular Comp 918's, right?

I'm doing a 'higher-lift' cam install in the spring, and I'm mildly concerned about spring breakage in the very cold weather I sometimes encounter. Would dual springs provide a little extra insurance against a dropped valve in case one of the springs lets go?

yea, they should protect you more. if you go to buy some, check out the lift specs. i think alot of the double springs hold up to .650 lift. and the comp 918s are 600 right?

yes mark you are correct. now what are you calling HIGH LIFT?? i can tell you i have had a cam with .591 lift and it ran fine for 8,000 miles. only that long cause my springs are set up tighter at 1.640" and ls1 springs are normaly set between 1.700-1.800". my springs were binding and started breaking at 8,000 miles. i broke 6 total and well the duals saved me 4 times but the last time i broke inner and outer.

so i do agree with dual springs and love them but in some apps are not needed. unless you are like me and paranoid........

Yup, I'm paranoid.

The largest lift I plan on going with would be the Thunder Racing grinds at .550-something.

I didn't mean HIGH lift as in .600+, but high-ER lift. Higher than the standard Comp or Crane grinds at about .520-something and under.

I'm doing a 'higher-lift' cam install in the spring, .....
About time you dug into that thing.
